The new owner of this midcoast waterfront inn knew at first glance that it had the potential to become a unique coastal luxury inn catering to a world-wide audience. However, the existing cottages and guest rooms had to be transformed into visual statements of their own—enticing rooms to take comfort in, from which to enjoy exquisite water views, impeccable service, and first-class food servings. In a nutshell, the client wanted to make every room and every cottage “special, a home away from home.”
In Homer Cottage and Lane Cottage two different themes were thoughtfully detailed. Homer, with a pickled floor and a complementary soft lemon cream area rug, was paired with a dramatic washed shuttered headboard. Armchairs were upholstered in a soft yellow and white floral print that gave the space a clean, crisp overall look. A soft yellow throw is draped over the bed for additional guest comfort.
Lane Cottage has a warmer appeal, with a dark cane headboard set on a natural Sisal area carpet bordered by a contrasting white floor. A handsome Ralph Lauren navy blue batik-theme permeates this cottage, as evidenced by upholstered chairs, sham and throw.
In the main lodge, attention was focused on highlighting the owner’s collection of blue china. The fireside chairs were upholstered in a Brunschwig & Fils coordinating indoor/outdoor sky blue-striped motif that flows into the adjoining solarium furnished with wicker and a Brunschwig & Fils coordinated blue floral indoor/outdoor cushions.
This client especially appreciated our suggestion to use indoor/outdoor fabrics for durability and upholstering for ease of cleaning.
