Victorian Wine Venue
The intent for this commercial location was to showcase a converted Victorian house with an opulent interior to match the exterior. The client wanted to create a feeling of grandeur and old-world comfort within the wine tasting bar situated in a solarium.
As designers, we stepped back in time and filled the interior with velvet wall coverings, upholstered chairs, and window treatments with panels alone weighing upwards of 20 lbs! The deep purple floral-embossed velvet wall covering on the first floor intricately merged with a second floor metallic striped wall covering, creating a visual kaleidoscope.
The first floor walls were covered with a black velvet paper framing a magnificent solid, dark mahogany paneled door. The second floor was equally beautiful, with “crystal” wall coverings and complementary tile work. Three Asian-inspired velvet upholstered arms chairs provided comfortable seating area on the second floor, and the rest rooms were anything but typical public rest rooms.
Exceptional craftsmanship was crucial. The winding staircase with custom-turned balusters are highlighted by a massive antique Waterford Crystal chandelier found in the Antique archives right here in the midcoast of Maine. Above the tasting bar in the solarium hangs a Tiffany inverted chandelier rumored to have been in a Boston warehouse before being brought up to Maine for sale at one of our Antique resources.
